Welcome, New Clergy!

On July 1, 2026 a NEW Conference year began. The Mountain View District is excited to welcome (and welcome back) a number of clergy and we’d like to introduce them.

This is a work in progress-check back again soon to meet more new MVD clergy!

2026 MVD Appointments

  • Mark Tinsley Headshot

    Mark Tinsley, Bethlehem UMC

Previous Appointment: Jackson Street UMC, Mountain View District

Family: Married, 5 children (2 in college, 3 at home)

What are you most excited about for the coming year at your new appointment? Getting back into preaching and proclaiming God's Word.

What are you most passionate about in ministry? Preaching and teaching. I like to see people grow in their knowledge and appreciation of God.

What was your very first job? I was a police officer in Waynesboro, VA.

Fun fact about you: I am a commercial pilot and certified flight instructor (single- and multi-engine land, instrument).

  • Headshot of Terry Young

    Terry Young, Stanleytown UMC

Family: My wife (Laurie) and I have been married for 35 years. We have two adult daughters who are both married and live in Arlington. Our only "child" at home is our bernedoodle, Arabel.

What are you most excited about for the coming year at your new appointment? I am serving as a lay supply pastor and this is the first time I have served in a pastoral role. I am excited about cultivating new relationships in my new church family and being responsive to God's call to see what the Holy Sprit has in store for the church.

What are you most passionate about in ministry? While new to this role, I believe my passion will be sharing Christ's love in our community in an inclusive fashion. I believe we are in a time where we desperately need to lift each other up and not beat each other down.

What was your very first job? My first job was a summer job as an upholsterer (a bad one) at a local furniture factory.

Fun fact about you: While in law school in Idaho, I frequently played basketball against Dan O'Brien who would go onto hold the world decathlon record for many years and win a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
